The monastery’s history dates back to 11th century and is meticulously crafted on sand stone. This monastery has a rich history with interesting topography in the surrounding. The surrounding area is stretched with the formation of yellow loess. Alchi monastery is nestled in the west of Leh and is 69 kilometres distant to the West of Leh. It is considered as one of the largest and the most popular monasteries of 11th century built by Rinchen Zangpo. This beautiful monastery is home to the best murals and frescoes that reflect the traditional Kashmiri style of Buddhist motifs. Each monastery in Ladakh has a different story to tell. DAY 1 - Arrival At Leh

Upon your arrival at Leh, you will be assisted and escorted to the hotel. Since Leh is a high altitude desert, it takes at least a day or two to acclimatize to the conditions. So, relax and take some rest in your hotel. Evening is set at leisure; you may opt to visit the local markets in Leh. It is enriched with culture and is dotted with temples and monasteries.


Overnight stay will be at a hotel in Leh.

DAY 2: Leh Sightseeing

To get acclimatize to harsh conditions; one more day in Leh will help you a lot. Unveil the beauty of archaic monasteries, lovely palaces and museums for which the place is popular. Shey Monastery, Thiksey Monastery and Stok Monastery are next in line. These monasteries are in the same destination. You may talk to the locals of Leh to listen the historic stories that belong to the legends and these monasteries. In the evening, a visit to Leh Palace is scheduled. However, rest of the evening; you can spend at your own leisure.


Overnight stay will be at a hotel in Leh.

DAY 3: Leh to Lamayuru

Post breakfast, get ready for the drive to Lamayuru. Leh to Lamayuru is 4 hours’ drive. The drive itself will give you spine-chilling experience with picturesque landscapes. Below the monastery, there is a nice camping site.

DAY 4: Lamayuru To Wan La Via Pritikingi La

This day is set for a short and easy trek. From Lamayuru, which is at an altitude of 3,450 meters, the trek is descending to the stream. Crossing through the barren gorge of yellow sand, the trek is ascending towards Pritikingi La Pass. You will cross a steep descent while going through this pass that further leads you to a gorge. This gorge again will take you to the entrance of Wanla village. A monastery dating back to Lamayuru period is nestled in this village.


Overnight stay will be in the camp.

DAY 5: Wanla to Hinju

Wanla to Hinju is at a distance of 10 kilometres. It is a trek of 5-6 hours’ duration. Following the jeep track upstream from Wanla reach Panji La Pass. The trek descends to a stream across the pass. It further leads to the village of Hinju. Beyond the village, there are numerous camping sites.


Overnight stay will be at the camp.

DAY 6: Hinju to Sumdha Chenmo

It is a comparatively easy mount for first two hours above Hinju village going through a number of summer meadows. The trek goes upstream as you ascend towards Kongske La. From the summit, you can enjoy the breath-taking views and that makes this trek worth the climb. To its South, there are Zanskar peaks while to its North, there are beautiful Nubra-Shayok peaks. Descending down from the village will take you to Sumdha Chenmo village. It takes around 2 hours to go downstream from here. Below the verdant expanse of gazing ground where hundreds of sheep, goats and yaks graze, there is an ultimate camping site.

DAY 7: Sumdha Chenmo to Sumdha Chun

It is a trek of 5-6 hours duration. Crossing through many streams and going through several gazing verdants, you will reach Sumdha Chun. The major attraction of this trail is crossing the four rivers. Sumdha Chun village houses a beautiful monastery dating back to the history of Alchi. This village has also a settlement for metal workers who migrated from Nepal to Ladakh around two hundred years ago.


Overnight stay will be in camps.

DAY 8: Sumdha Chun to Alchi

This day is set for the trek from Sumdha Chun to Alchi across Stakspila. It is 10 kilometres distant and nearly takes 7 hours. From camping site at Sumdha Chun to Stakspi La Pass, there is a steep mount taking around 4 hours. You will immerse into the wonderful views from the summit. To its North, there is a sharp decent over the craggy terrain towards the grazing ground. After three hours of trekking, you will reach Alchi.


Overnight stay will be in Alchi.

DAY 9: Alchi to Leh

Visit Alchi monastery in the morning. The monastery is known for some of the rarest frescoes in the world. Journey towards Leh will start in the afternoon.

DAY 10: Depart From Leh

You will be transferred to Leh airport. Bid a good bye and catch your return flight to hometown with lots of memories.
